Career Options after Engineering

Why are you studying Engineering? May be, you are looking for better career options after Engineering. May be right, May be wrong? Actually Job market is not stable as it was few years ago. For getting a good job in big company person have to look different in many ways. One should have good academics, done graduation from reputed college and subject specialization apart from Graduate Degree and Diploma. It will make you stand out from the crowd and offer you many opportunities which will help you answer the question “What to do after Engineering”.

As I mentioned above graduate degree is enough to get a job in engineering field, but higher education will benefit you get top jobs easily. You just have to make up your mind and act accordingly.

Go for a Job right after Engineering

Studying engineering will not guarantee you a job easily it will depend upon the reputation of the college where you study and your academic records. No doubt you will find millions of companies in the field of Engineering which offers jobs to Engineers, but choosing the right one in beginning your career will help you go long way.

You may try your luck in best companies right after finishing your Engineering and take steps to get in to it from campus placements. I will personally advice you to never turn down any campus placement job offered as this is best path to enter into top companies without browsing a job website.

Most of the top companies’ hires workforce by either recruiting fresher candidate as a GET (Graduate Engineer trainee) or middle and top management through direct recruitments. Therefore fresher must not lose any chance to get it through at first glance.

Become one in thousands after higher studies

Are you sure you don’t want a job after engineering? If you are willing to go for higher education then don’t let your learning hunger die and just select the right course which interests you. I have listed down few of the options which may help you to choose career options after Engineering.

M.E./ M.tech

Specialization in any core engineering subject from top colleges of the country. Getting good score in GATE will definitely help you to book your berth in top college/university of India. Altogether you will get stipend of Rupees 8000 per month, helpful though.

MBA

If you are willing to develop essential analytical skills then you are on the right track. MBA certainly will enrich you resume and allow you to maximize career options apart from engineering background. You may join directly into the middle management jobs after completing Master of Business management.

Master of Science

It can be a better option if you go for MS and I would recommend you to try your luck in foreign universities. If you are short of finance for higher study, don’t worry; apply for loan or scholarship for studying abroad. Government Jobs are an inch away

Job in government sector will be ideal choice if you decide early during your Engineering course as it will help you prepare for government examination.  I would recommend you to make  up your mind for government job when you are studying engineering, as you will get double benefits studying same syllabus for Engineering and government qualification examinations.
Following are the top government companies / Organization offers maximum jobs to engineers;

1. Defense Services – Air force, Army and Navy. 
2. Indian Railways
3. PSU – NTPC, ONGC, Indian Oil corporation limited, SAIL, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat heavy electrical limited, BSNL, GAIL etc
